The journey of writing and what we’ve learned along the way

Writing is a journey we take together. Story Planner 6.0 is just one step. I can’t wait to see where the next ones lead.

I started writing, like many of you probably did, when I was a kid. Back then I thought writing was all about inspiration. It worked for short stories, but whenever I tried to tackle something longer, I felt lost, with no real direction.

Later, during my screenwriting studies, I discovered what it meant to work with a method. I learned to organize ideas, to structure stories, to build step by step. And it was a revelation: suddenly I had tools to go further. For a while I held on to that method tightly, because it gave me a sense of security.

But with time I realized something important: there’s no single right method. In screenwriting you often work in teams, and each person has their own way of organizing a project. I also see this every day in my editorial work: every writer needs different tools, and helping them has taught me just as much as I hope to teach them.

The funny thing is that one of the things that has helped me the most to understand this diversity didn’t come from a class or a book, but from something unexpected: the Story Planner app. When we first created it back in 2014, it was because I needed a tool to organize my own stories. I wanted something like my old notebooks, but cleaner, more structured, and with everything in one place. At the beginning, the app was fairly rigid, designed mostly for following a step-by-step method.

What I never imagined is that the app and I would grow together — and that this growth would be possible thanks to other writers. Over the years, your feedback about what was missing or what you needed has made me see new possibilities. By incorporating them into Story Planner, I’ve also been able to incorporate them into my own way of writing. And looking back now, I see that its evolution has mirrored my own as a writer: it started rigid and schematic, and gradually became more open, more flexible, better at adapting to each story and each creative process.

That’s why I’m especially excited about the release of Story Planner 6.0 this summer: it represents that shared learning journey. It’s the most flexible and organic version of the app so far, and I believe it can now support many more writers — even those working on nonfiction projects.

Because writing is never a fixed path — it’s a journey that changes as we do. Story Planner 6.0 is a step in that direction, born from our shared experience as writers. And the most exciting part is that the journey doesn’t end here.

I’m looking forward to seeing how the app, and all of us who use it, will keep learning and growing together.
